Friday Group Rides

Connect with the Little 500 community and get to know Bloomington roads and scenery. IUSF rents loaner bicycles on a first-come, first-serve basis. If you need a bicycle, please call 812-855-9152. Rides will be led by Riders Council. Each week, we will offer three rotating route options: a long ride of 30-45 miles, an intermediate ride of 15-25 miles, and a beginner ride of 5-15 miles (if you have never been on a group ride before, you have go on at least two of these before riding on the intermediate or long rides).

Fall Little 500 Skills Clinics

New to the Little 500? Come to our Fall Little 500 Skills Clinics to discover what it’s all about. You’ll learn all the basics of bike racing, from exchanges and pack riding to bumping drills and more. Loaner Little 500 Bikes will be made available at Bill Armstrong Stadium. All riders must come with their own helmet.

Thursday Night Race Series

The Thursday Night Races consist of three different track-based racing events — all using Little 500 bikes. Registration is $10 per night and open to beginners and veterans. Riders will be split into categories based on the year they completed Rookie Week or the number of points that they have accumulated in past race series. IUSF will track the progress of all riders and award points based on performance, enabling riders to move up in category as the series progresses.

Time: Rider Check-In and Warm Up at 6:00 pm, races start at 7:00 pm

Fall Cycling Series

Individual Time Trials
In each heat, one rider will be placed at each of the four corners of the track. From a standing start, at the sound of the horn, each participant will make four complete laps. At the conclusion of the fourth lap, the timers will stop the clock. Riders will be sorted into standings based on their four-lap time.

Street Sprints
How about drag racing on Little 500 bikes? Competition will start in the Qualifying Round. Riders will be slotted into preliminary heats of six riders and sprint 200 meters down Kirkwood Avenue for a time. The top-16 men and top-16 women will advance to the Championship Round. Based off their qualifying time, riders will be slotted into the Championship Bracket and proceed to race one-on-one as they advance through the bracket to the finals.

Strava Course Route

It’s a relay obstacle course on bikes! Riders pair up into teams of two to complete alternating laps of a preset course. Teams exchange between each lap with the option to use the same bike or two different bikes. Various obstacles include straw bales, stairs, sand, and more! Women will race for 10 laps; men will race for 15 laps.
Date and time: October 22; women at 2:00 pm, men at 3:30 pm

  • 5 of 9 Friday Group Rides
  • 3 of 4 Skills Clinics
  • 3 of 5 Fall Cycling events (including both Thursday Night Races and Fall Cycling Series events)
  • 1 of 2 Rookie Information Seminars on November 7 and 8 from 7:00-8:30 pm (location TBD)
  • Pass Rookie Exam with at least an 85%
